Ormskirk Town Centre Business Directory Launched

Our West Lancashire have today launched an online business directory for Ormskirk Town Centre.

Adrian Owens, OWL Chairman said the idea came from comments OWL hear from residents frequently.  “People will say to us they didn’t know they could get that product or service in Ormskirk.  We want our market town to succeed, and it’s clear that many local people are unaware of the range of goods and services available.  There are no longer the traditional directories like Thomson Local or a widely read local newspaper. So some OWL members recently visited town centre businesses gathering information.  Since then we have collated the directory which is now available online.”  Mr Owens added that if there were to be sufficient interest in advertising to cover print costs, then a printed version would also be considered.

OWL Councillor Linda Webster and OWL activist Janet Ingman helped in visiting the businesses.  Cllr Webster said, “Ormskirk may have lost some prominent retailers over the years, but I was struck by the range of businesses in the town centre from vintage vinyl records to a traditional sweet shop.  As local people, we need to get behind our shops, hospitality venues and other businesses and this directory offers a quick way to check what’s available on the doorstep instead of making a long and costly trip to a neighbouring town or city or resorting to online marketplaces.”

Janet Ingman added, “When you visit a local business you keep more money in the local economy and support local jobs and entrepreneurs.  It has less impact on the environment and you benefit from friendly face to face expertise and support.  Our town centre businesses are what makes Ormskirk unique.  Let’s support them with our trade.”
